Our Motivation
Shortly after the Second World War, the United Nations introduced
the right to education for all people
into its basic human rights catalogue.
However, reality is different.
Since its height in the mid-1980s the actual number of children
enrolled in primary school in developing countries is declining.
As might be expected, the standard of available public schooling
is appalling in many of these countries and the majority of people
cannot afford any quality education on offer. Children and young
people are the weakest part of these societies and predictably they
cannot put up resistance to and suffer directly from any cutbacks
in education.
The equal education fund (EEF)
intends to set an example. We work towards achieving improvements
in education in manageable ways within developing countries. Convinced
that we enrich the world of these children and young people, we
support selected educational projects and institutions. Not only
is education the precondition for qualified work, but also allows
for the participation in public discourse and contributes towards
the making and establishment of a stable democratic society

Our goal is that:
children become aware of their rights and duties and are able
to take care of their lives;
natural growth of the children's personalities is possible;
the children learn to make their own decisions, form their (value)
opinions and that they are responsible and capable of understanding
the reality around them and if necessary engaging and changing
it. |

EEF works in close cooperation with the local
population in concern. Its main aim is to improve the socio-economic
and humanitarian situation of children and young people in a sustainable
way.

equal education fund – EEF
EEF is a charitable, non-profit making society founded in Bern,
Switzerland, in 2002. The mission and abiding purpose of EEF is
to promote opportunities for the education
and training of disadvantaged children and young people regardless
of their race, gender or religious beliefs. In doing so,
the society supports innovative projects for vulnerable children
and young people to alleviate their suffering and offer them the
chance to build a better life for themselves.

Our Philosophy:
Developmental aid makes sense when the projects are small,
sustainable and embedded in the societies concerned.
Local self-initiative is a basic
condition for support of any kind. EEF operates projects
that have clear aims and realistic
targets. We do not champion projects that are unachievable,
but see through projects that meet the demands of the needy.
Our donations do not end up in the hands of the greedy. Money
is invested at the point where it is needed and in the
past, EEF has stopped support of projects when it became apparent
that corruption was involved.
Evaluation of our projects is central to our ability to provide
the exact help needed. Monitoring
project development on a regular basis is the only way
to avoid misuse of donors' money and ensure that the aims of
the projects are fulfilled.
EEF is run in such a way that administrative
costs are as low as possible thereby ensuring that as
much of the donated money as possible is used to benefit the
people in need directly. |
